Have you ever wondered what is going on with all those weird flight prices?  Like why is it cheaper to take a flight to Orlando that stops in Kansas City than it is just to fly to Orlando?  Well the long and short of it is that airlines base prices off of the popularity of the route.  So if more people are flying that route then the flight will be cheaper.  So a flight to Kansas plus a flight to Orlando might be more popular than just a flight to Orlando.  Weird right?

Enter SkipLagged.  This website is a new way to search flights that most airlines would rather you didn’t.  It allows you to search longer routes with layovers for destinations as layovers.  I know that sounds weird but it is a great idea.  Basically here is how it works.  If a flight from Denver to Kansas City is $150 then that is what you will pay for that flight should you book it.  However if a flight from Denver to Orlando is $130 that has a layover in Kansas City SkipLagged will show you that flight in addition to the normal flight.  You can book the flight to Orlando and deplane in Kansas City without getting back on.  There is one very important side note to flying this way.  YOU CANNOT CHECK BAGS.  Your bags will be checked all the way to Orlando, and that wouldn’t be fun at all.

Is SkipLagged right for you?   Take a look at it.  Not all the flights offered will be ‘skiplagged’.  But there is no harm in looking at their flight selection.

They also offer a very fun travel planning tool that isn’t available other places..  You can do an open ended search.  To do this go to their main page, enter your departure airport, enter your dates and do search.  It will then give you destinations available on your dates from your airport with prices.  The flights made cheaper by skiplagged will be highlighted.  AS ALWAYS YOU SHOULD CHECK THEIR PRICES VERSES GOOGLE FLIGHTS, KAYAK, MOMONDO, AND OTHER TRAVEL SITES BEFORE BOOKING.

Good luck with your travel search and let me know how it goes for you!
